In 2015, the Lahui rose to the occasion, from all islands and inspired the majority of the population in Hawaii and enlightened those around the world how important protecting cultural resources are here and everywhere.

November 2018, The Hawaii Supreme Court’s 4 to 1 ruling to accept the Board of Land and Natural Resources position that “there were no traditional Hawaiian spiritual practices related to the land on Top of Mauna Kea”., is a complete violation of conservation law, and its a travesty that must be remedied, and can be. A direct violation of United Nation and International Law, and a complete disregard of substantial and valid evidence provided over in the last 3 years is an unacceptable abuse of power and removable corruption.  The only Honorable Supreme Court Justice who voted in favor or Protecting Mauna Kea and Hawaiian’s Cultural and Spiritual rights –  Michael Wilson, (former chairman of the state Land Board) took issue with the majority’s finding, stating and documenting the extensive evidence which was presented during the contested case regarding all spiritual practices related to that specific land; particularly the unobstructed view plane critical to spiritual ceremonies; precisely because the absence of obstructing structures makes the spiritual practice possible. The TMT would block that view plane and obstruct the spiritual practices and forever alter them even if removed at a later date.

“Under this new principle of natural resource law,” Wilson wrote, “one of the most sacred resources of the Hawaiian culture loses its protection because it has previously undergone substantial adverse impact from prior development of telescopes.” This is an unfair and unacceptable pretense, and discord that cannot, and will not be tolerated by the Lahui.

Now in 2024 – MORE than EVER, Mauna Keaʻs and all of Hawaii’s delicate habitat, history, culture, water & the life it provides and sustains freely – is in Danger, and needs your
SUPPORT, PRESENCE & JUSTICE to be held to the highest standards of Kapu Aloha & Pono.

Hawaii needs your help, and will need to #SeeYOUontheMauna, in Kapu Aloha.

Newly elected Hawaii County Council members along with the former prosecuting attorney now positioned as the local Mayor – have made alterations to local county laws to encourage and allow more aggressive police actions in the future for lawful protests and gatherings being conducted on the island of Hawaii, will most definately be occuring.   These changes were made against the communities wishes and during the highest point of the pandemic.

Please show your support, by making Donations to all Aloha ʻĀina Protectors, who will be coming to Hawai’i to protect this Sacred Place. Support can be given by Prayer, Shares, Likes, Transportation, Bail, Legal Representation, T-Shirts, Stickers, Music and more.  You could plan to visit Hawai’i island, if your inspired by Ke Akua, possibly the summit of Mauna Kea. When the hail goes out around the world to Protect Mauna Kea, we anticipate massive support – even more than 2015 & 2019 combined.  So if you seek guidance on where to send support or help getting to the Mauna for your mission to make the world a better place, we can help coordinate accommodations when you arrive, let us know on Twitter.

The former Governor of Hawai’i and the current Mayor(s) of Hilo have promised to use all means necessary, including the National Guard and more to arrest and remove protectors in the future.   Technically only the Kānaka Maoli people and their descendants are legally allowed to be in charge of the main access Road. No Quasi state agency can dictate that stewardship to anyone especially to a foreign corporation or foreign corporate controlled University?

You can help protect Mauna Kea, The Kingdom of Hawaii and the largest water aquifer on planet Earth. Please share our website and links through your social media contacts.  With the water already nearly 100% destroyed in Oahu, the power of the AHU is REAL!! – and so we must do everything we can to protect our precious water, resources and our sacred places that SUPPORT life.

Protect Mauna Kea: Preserving a Sacred Place

Discover the Rich Cultural Significance and Ongoing Efforts to Protect Mauna Kea:

Mauna Kea, a majestic mountain located in Hawaii, holds deep cultural and spiritual significance for the indigenous people of the islands. Revered as a sacred place and considered a temple of the highest order, Mauna Kea represents the ancestral ties of the Native Hawaiian people to creation itself. However, the mountain and its surrounding environment face significant threats, necessitating the urgent need for protection and preservation. In this article, we will delve into the rich cultural heritage of Mauna Kea, the ongoing efforts to safeguard its sanctity, and how you can contribute to the cause.

1. The Cultural Significance of Mauna Kea

Mauna Kea is not just a mountain; it is the meeting place of Papa (Earth Mother) and Wakea (Sky Father), the progenitors of the Hawaiian People. The upper regions of Mauna Kea reside in Wao Akua, the realm of the Akua-Creator, home to Na Akua (the Divine Deities) and Na ‘Aumakua (the Divine Ancestors). It is believed that Mauna Kea is where the Sky and Earth separated, giving birth to the Great Expanse of Space and the Heavenly Realms.

As a temple or house of worship, Mauna Kea holds a special place in Hawaiian culture and cosmology. Unlike other man-made temples, it was created by the Akua for man to bring the heavens closer. Its sanctity is governed by the laws of Heaven, not the laws of man. The kahu (religious guardians) of Mauna Kea have an ancient responsibility to proclaim its sanctity and protect it, ensuring that its greatness and purpose can be shared with all of mankind.

2. Threats to Mauna Kea

Despite its cultural and spiritual significance, Mauna Kea has faced numerous threats over the years. One of the most pressing issues is the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) on its summit. The TMT project has sparked controversy and protests due to concerns about the impact on the mountain’s delicate ecosystem, cultural heritage, and spiritual practices.

The Hawaii Supreme Court’s ruling in 2018, stating that there were no traditional Hawaiian spiritual practices related to the land on top of Mauna Kea, was met with outrage and disbelief. This ruling disregarded substantial evidence presented and violated both conservation and international laws. The proposed TMT would obstruct the unobstructed view plane critical to spiritual ceremonies, forever altering the practices even if removed at a later date.

Additionally, the desecration of sacred places and the destruction of natural resources in Hawaii have raised concerns about the preservation of Mauna Kea and the interconnectedness of the island’s ecosystem. Protecting Mauna Kea is not only about preserving a sacred site but also about safeguarding the ocean and the abundant life it sustains.

3. Grassroots Efforts to Protect Mauna Kea

In response to the threats facing Mauna Kea, various grassroots and native organizations have emerged to protect, preserve, and restore the sacred places of Hawaii. These organizations are dedicated to opposing further desecration and supporting restoration and preservation efforts. By spreading awareness and advocating for the protection of Mauna Kea, they aim to ensure the continuation of cultural practices and the preservation of the island’s delicate ecosystem.

One notable initiative is “Mauna Built,” a platform that supports non-profit organizations, grassroots movements, and native groups working towards the preservation of sacred places. They seek to unite individuals who share a passion for protecting Mauna Kea and offer unique designs, artwork, and music that promote the cause. By purchasing products or donating to these organizations, individuals can contribute to the ongoing efforts to safeguard Mauna Kea.

4. The Importance of Community Support

Protecting Mauna Kea requires collective efforts and community support. Individuals can show their support in various ways, including prayer, sharing information, transportation assistance, legal representation, and financial contributions. Local businesses that align with the cause also play a crucial role in supporting the community while sharing their Aloha spirit.

Visiting Mauna Kea, if inspired by Ke Akua, can be a meaningful way to connect with the land and understand its cultural significance. However, it is essential to approach such visits with respect, following the strict protocols set by Native Hawaiians. The realm of Mauna Kea is sacred, and visitors should prioritize guidance from Ke Akua and adhere to the cultural practices associated with the mountain.

5. Recent Developments and Future Challenges

In recent years, tensions surrounding Mauna Kea have heightened due to the actions of local government officials and the response to protests. Newly elected Hawaii County Council members and the current Mayor have introduced laws that enable more aggressive police actions during protests, a move that has been widely criticized as an infringement on people’s rights.

The Lahui, the collective voice of the Hawaiian people, remains steadfast in their commitment to protecting Mauna Kea. Despite challenges and opposition, they continue to advocate for justice, holding the highest standards of Kapu Aloha and Pono. The Lahui calls for worldwide support, anticipating even greater solidarity than the previous protests in 2015 and 2019.

6. How You Can Make a Difference

If you are passionate about protecting Mauna Kea and the cultural heritage of Hawaii, there are several ways you can contribute to the cause:

  1. Spread Awareness: Share information about Mauna Kea and the ongoing efforts to protect it through social media platforms and personal networks. Encourage others to join the cause and amplify the message of preservation.

  2. Support Grassroots Organizations: Donate to non-profit, grassroots, and native organizations dedicated to protecting Mauna Kea. Your contributions can aid in legal representation, bail support, transportation, and other essential needs of the Aloha ʻĀina Protectors.

  3. Purchase Supporting Merchandise: Consider buying Mauna Kea T-shirts, stickers, or other merchandise that supports the cause. These products often feature unique designs, artwork, or music that directly contribute to the ongoing efforts.

  4. Plan a Visit: If you have the opportunity, plan a visit to the island of Hawaii and experience the beauty of Mauna Kea firsthand. Coordinate your accommodations in advance to support local businesses that align with the community’s values and share their Aloha spirit.

Conclusion

Mauna Kea stands as a sacred place, representing the ancestral ties of the Native Hawaiian people to creation itself. The ongoing efforts to protect and preserve this cultural treasure are crucial for maintaining its sanctity and safeguarding the delicate ecosystem of Hawaii. By spreading awareness, supporting grassroots organizations, and showing solidarity, we can make a difference in ensuring the preservation of Mauna Kea for generations to come. Let us unite in the spirit of Aloha and stand together to protect Mauna Kea, a symbol of reverence and cultural heritage.

We Are Mauna to Makai

These breathtaking viewʻs on the tallest Mountain on Earth, are so precious and sacred, visits by Native Hawaiians are done under strict protocol and anyone who ventures to the summit should always be inspired and guided by Ke Akua (The Creator) first and foremost.  This is the creators realm! Protectors were inspired to travel in droves to stand and block illegal and un-permitted construction in 2015.  Even though the Hawaiʻi State Supreme Court ruled that NO legal permit was ever issued, the greed and self serving multi-billion dollar profit margins that telescopes charge their customers,  continues to fuel a destructive agenda on the innocent people, children, water and most sacred space of Ko Hawaiʻi Pae ʻĀina.
